What Will I Study?
Students will learn a deep understanding of how computers work and how to create programs and solve problems using programming languages.
Students will explore the principles of digital technology and ‘computational thinking’ with opportunities to code in python.
Component 1: Computer Systems, will test students knowledge on how computers work and include the following areas of study - Systems Architecture; Memory; Storage; Wired and wireless networks; Network topologies, protocols and layers; System security; System software; Ethical, legal, cultural and environmental concerns
Component 2: Computational Thinking, Algorithms and Programming, is focused on computational thinking and algorithms and will include the following areas of study – Computational Thinking; Algorithms; Programming techniques (using Python); Producing robust programs; Computational logic; Translators and facilities of languages;

What Skills Will I Develop?
This course will help students develop critical thinking, logical thinking, mathematical and problem solving skills.
Students need to be able to think logically and solve puzzles
Creative and technical skills to be able to apply knowledge and understanding of new technology in a range of contexts
Problem solving through the use of algorithms in computer programs
Independence & collaborative working
Evaluation skills in the effectiveness of computer programs/solutions
How Will I Be Assessed?
Component 1 and Component 2 – are both written exams each are 50% of the assessment total.
Both papers are 1 hour and 30 minutes each.
