Year 7 Update - Autumn 1
Year 7 have made a wonderful start to North Leamington School. Students have made the challenging transition into secondary school life really well and are now fully integrated into our school community. It was lovely to see so many parents and carers that were able to join us for the Year 7 Information Evening on Monday 16 October.
Whole School Events
Year 7 showed their commitment to charity and the school community in how they embraced the Hello Yellow World Mental Health Day. It was fantastic to see so many raising money and showing their support for such a worthwhile cause.
In tutor time students received guidance on how to support their own mental wellbeing and were reminded of the resources and support available to them within school including support from our Mental Health Team, Lulu our school dog, and the wider Individual Educational Needs (IEN) team.
Unfortunately the British weather forced us to postpone our Race for Life event. This is a landmark event in the year where the whole school races around the site to raise money and come together in aid of Cancer Research UK. This will be rescheduled for later in the school year, and will be a lasting memory for Year 7 when that day comes around.
As part of our International School status those Year 7s able to join the trip to the Botanical Gardens had a fantastic time. With the aim being an opportunity to get a taste of different natural environments it also enabled students to build relationships within their Tutor Group.
Workshops allowed students to learn more about how plant species have adapted to their unique environments by exploring the glasshouses to experience an authentic rainforest, desert and alpine garden. They were also able to learn about a variety of animals and their habits, even handling hissing cockroaches and giant African snails. This was an excellent opportunity to learn outside the classroom, that Year 7 really made the most of.
Tutor Curriculum
During Tutor Time, students have been looking at Politics and Parliament to help answer questions they may have such as why politics is important? How the country is run? Who is Keir Starmer? And to learn more about women and politics, elections and campaigning, the political parties in the England, parliament as well as looking at how they might create their own political party.
With October being Black History Month we have celebrated the Black community's histories, traditions, and culture. It has been fantastic to see so many of our Year 7 students developing their confidence and leadership skills by leading sections of Tutor Time supported by their Form Tutor.

Rewards and Celebration
Celebrating achievements is one of the most pleasurable aspects of our roles. Reward points are rewarded for positive learning behaviours and contributions to school life. Every single student in Year 7 has demonstrated these behaviours and accumulated tens of reward points. A huge additional congratulations goes to the following students for their outstanding commitment to their learning journey by having the highest number of rewards.

Calendar
Upcoming next half term, we will have plenty of opportunities for charity and community in the run up to the festive period, and when we return in January there will be a Subject Evening with teachers that all parents and carers are invited to attend. Further on the horizon is our residential trip to Whitemoor Lakes happening 7-9 March 2025. More information on each of these exciting developments will come closer to the time.
We will also be supporting Remembrance Day and Anti Bullying Week. Students will also be able to take part in our first College fortnight of the year and our Winter music concert is on Wednesday 4 December.
Year7 will also have an Oracy Workshop in November. This speaking and listening day will put the students into the depths of the Dragons Den. Working in groups they will pitch a new game idea to the dragons to see if they can get an investment in their innovative idea. They will create, develop and pitch their game to the dragons and will need to demonstrate their creativity, innovation and teamwork to ensure their game receives the investment! We look forward to their creations.
To conclude, we are very proud of the Commitment and Excellence shown by Year 7 so far in their journey. It has been a real pleasure to see so many Year 7s throw themselves into school life, including joining basketball club, steel band, creative writing club and drama club to name but a few! If your child would like to take advantage of some of these extracurricular activities, their Form Tutor can help them with this.
I wish all of your families a restful half term and I am looking forward to welcoming all of the Year 7 students into their second half term at North Leamington School.
Yours sincerely,
Joseph Piper
