Year 10 Update - Spring 2

As we reach the end of the Spring Term, I want to take a moment to express how incredibly proud I am of Year 10. This half term has been eventful, demanding, and filled with successes. From mock exams to inspiring trips, from the Race for Life event to our crucial Parents' and Revision Evenings, our students have continued to demonstrate our school's CORE ethos in every aspect of school life.

Year 10 Subject Evening

This term saw our Year 10 students experience their first Parents' Evening since beginning their GCSEs, and what an incredibly successful evening it was. It was fantastic to see so many parents and carers attending, taking the opportunity to celebrate their child’s efforts and successes achieved so far this year. The positive engagement and meaningful conversations had between students, parents, and teachers will no doubt serve as motivation for our students to continue working hard as they progress further into their GCSE journey.

Year 10 Revision Evening

I was truly overwhelmed by the number of parents and carers who attended our Year 10 Revision Evening. Your enthusiasm and dedication to your child’s education and progress are truly commendable. Subject Leads in Science, English, Maths, and RE delivered insightful presentations, providing bespoke revision strategies tailored to their respective subjects. Mr Atkins also shared a range of effective revision techniques applicable to all subjects, ensuring students are well-prepared for their upcoming RE exam and their progression exams towards the end of the academic year. The feedback from parents and carers was extremely positive, highlighting how valuable and informative the evening was.

Data 2

The release of Data 2 has provided us with an insightful overview of our students' progress, and I am delighted to report that a significant number of Year 10 students are exceeding their target grades. This is a testament to their work ethic, maturity, and commitment to their subjects. Year 10 continues to be a year group with high aspirations, determined to reach their future destinations. Their dedication to academic success is truly commendable, and I encourage all students to maintain this momentum as we move forward.

Race for Life

On Friday 21 March, our Year 10 students took part in the Race for Life event with outstanding enthusiasm. They fully embraced the sentiment behind the occasion, wearing pink accessories and completing numerous laps around our school field. The atmosphere was electric, filled with determination and camaraderie as students raised awareness for such an important cause. Their generosity and commitment were evident in the significant amount of money raised for the charity (£2,393). It was a true testament to their compassionate and community-minded spirit.

As part of celebrating World Book Day on 6 March, students had plenty of literary activities to enjoy throughout the day.

Tutor Curriculum

This term, our tutor curriculum has focused on key topics such as revision strategies, risk, peer pressure, vaping, and drug misuse. These discussions have been crucial in equipping our students with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions. Learning about these topics helps students navigate challenges, develop resilience, and make positive choices that will support their well-being and academic success. It has been encouraging to see students engage in thoughtful discussions and reflect on the importance of these issues. We also had our Second Digital Literacy week of the year with students learning about researching search engines and discussing what is Mindful practice when using IT; they also discussed how they would feel about turning off their tech.

At the start of the term we welcomed Warwickshire Police, who delivered assemblies on community safety.   This initiative forms part of our wider PSHE programme as we continue to hear about knife crime and community conflict. Some useful links were also shared during the assembly to support students and detailed  in Mr Lowdell's Parent Letter 28 February which is also on our website.

We supported Neurodiversity week with an assembly celebrating strengths and differences and recognising everyone’s brain works differently.

As part of celebrating World Book Day on 6 March, students had plenty of literary activities to enjoy throughout the day.

On Tuesday 11 March 2025 the Loudmouth Theatre Company visited school to work with the year 10 students around a program titled ‘Calling it out’.  This was around harmful sexual behaviours, sexual harassment and assault and involved a main performance followed by smaller workshops throughout the day. Students engagement was fantastic and I’m confident that many will have taken away the key messages.

Rewards

I am delighted to share that Year 10 has achieved the second-highest reward points in the school, exceeding 95,000 points which is a record number when comparing this time to previous years. This incredible achievement highlights the positive behaviour, effort, and dedication of our students across all areas of school life. Rewards points are earned for a wide range of positive behaviours, from academic excellence and participation in extracurricular activities to demonstrating respect and kindness towards others. Year 10 continue to set a fantastic example for the rest of the school.

I am also so happy to acknowledge the achievement of those students in each college as well as BW01, who have managed to achieve over 11000 points collectively. Analysis shows that the majority of these points have been awarded for students' commitment to learning and their dedication to developing literacy skills. This is no surprise, as Year 10 consistently embodies our school values in everything they do. Keep up the excellent work!

A special congratulations goes to the students who have earned the highest number of reward points so far this half term

Trips and Extra Curricular

This half-term, Year 10 students have had the opportunity to participate in three fantastic trips: the Battlefields Trip, New York City and Iceland. Educational visits are a vital part of learning, offering students the chance to extend their knowledge beyond the classroom and gain real-world experiences. Whether exploring the historical significance of the Battlefields, experiencing the breathtaking landscapes of Iceland, or immersing themselves in the vibrant culture of New York City, our students will return with enriched perspectives and unforgettable memories. These trips not only complement their academic studies but also build confidence, independence, and a global outlook.
You can read about the Battlefields trip in the latest news section at the beginning of this Bulletin and we look forward to sharing the experiences of New Yprk adn Iceland when the students return after Easter.

Congratulations to all those who completed their Duke of Edinburgh Silver training weekend in March. This was a really useful practice before their expedition in June.

These experiences will further support students in developing the skills and knowledge necessary for their academic and personal growth.

Next half term is only four weeks long, which gives us all a great opportunity to push for 100% attendance! In this spirit, on Friday 23 May we will be holding a Celebration Event for the Tutor Group with the highest attendance next half term. The highest attending Tutor Group from each year group will be invited down with their Form Tutor to celebrate with some pizza. We know how much attendance matters in school and we are looking forward to seeing which Tutor Groups will come out on top! Please do encourage your child to give their very best attendance next half term, it has a huge positive impact on their progress in school.

We start the new term  (week  beginning 28 April 2025) with students having  the opportunity to swap their usual PE top for a sports top of their choice! Whether it’s a football, rugby, cricket, or basketball top, they can take part by donating £1, with all proceeds going to Prostate Cancer UK. Donations can also be made through ParentPay.  Join us in supporting a great cause while showing off your favourite sports team!

As we move towards the Summer Term, I encourage all Year 10 students to continue demonstrating the dedication, perseverance, and enthusiasm they have shown so far. The hard work they put in now will undoubtedly pay off as they prepare for their upcoming exams and further GCSE studies.

Thank you once again to parents and carers for your unwavering support and partnership in your child’s education. I wish you all a restful and enjoyable break, and I look forward to seeing Year 10 return refreshed and ready for the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Best wishes

Mr Royle
