Promoting Equality and Diversity

At North Leamington School we firmly believe in providing an inclusive curriculum which supports children with opportunities to develop their own views and values.

Our Curriculum Aim

To provide a broad, balanced and exciting curriculum that:

  • enables all our students to be successful and make good progress
  • promotes the development of values, moral purpose, physical and mental wellbeing in an ethical and diverse environment
  • prepares students for future opportunities, responsibilities

As set out in the DfE guidance on the Equality Act, the school aims to advance equality of opportunity by:

  • Removing or minimising disadvantages suffered by people which are connected to a particular characteristic they have
  • Taking steps to meet the particular needs of people who have a particular characteristic
  • Encouraging people who have a particular characteristic to participate fully in any activities (such as encouraging all students to be involved in the full range of school societies and leadership opportunities)

We celebrate Equality and Diversity and aim to develop students respect for each other including their protected characteristics

Our Equality and Diversity Policy

Equality and Diversity is promoted across school in the following ways:
  • Opportunity for Leadership roles for all children – including our Sixth Form Assistant Senior Student Leaders Equality and Diversity
  • Reasonable adjustments for children who may require adaptations under the Equalities Act 2010
  • Consideration of reasonable adjustments for children’s parent/ carers to enable them to support their child.

Equality Objectives

At North Leamington School we are committed to ensuring equality of education and opportunity for all students, staff, parents and carers irrespective of race, sex, disability, belief, sexual orientation and socioeconomic background.

  1. To reduce and ultimately eliminate any incidences of discriminatory behaviour towards people with a protected characteristic listed in the Equality Act 2010 
  2. To establish NLS projects/initiatives aimed at fostering ever improving relationships between those who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
  3. To improve consultation and involvement of students with a protected characteristic through the representation of their views on the Student Council and Leadership roles across the school
  4. To raise aspirations and outcomes for all students with protected characteristics or from disadvantaged group
