Rewards
I am pleased to announce that Alexis F has the highest reward points over this half term. Closely on Alexis’ heals were Sam P and Lottie O. All of these students listed below have proceeded to show resilience, engagement, leadership, acts of kindness, creativity and have made outstanding contributions in lesson time.

This is a fantastic accomplishment for these particular students and shows how hardworking our students have been and highlights potential leaders moving forwards. I couldn’t be more proud.
From the beginning of the year Amber B has always been within the top 5 students receiving reward points. I am so pleased to announce that she has also managed to achieve the highest reward points in the entire school. This is simply incredible!

I should also like to congratulate, 8BW02 who are the Tutor Group with the most reward points in the entire school. What an achievement!

Year 8 Leaders for 2022-2023
Reward Leaders, International Leaders and Ambassadors have been excellent, fulfilling their roles wonderfully. Rewards Leaders have been proactive in helping Mrs Clarke with the reward events throughout the year, our International Leaders have prepared and delivered assemblies to Year 7s and Year 8s and our Ambassadors have supported and welcomed students and parents during Open Evenings. This takes courage, confidence and enthusiasm. Well done to each and every one of you.

Tutor Curriculum
This half term students have been learning from PSHE sessions centred around Physical Health and Mental Wellbeing. Students have been presented with lots of information and advice. The Year 8s came up with a list of what they could do to support their own wellbeing. Here are a few:

• Connect with others.
• Get a good night’s sleep.
• Do more physical activity.
• Try to eat a balanced diet.
• Take time out to do activities they enjoy.
• Try to be organised with school work.
• Focus on the positive experiences.

I am hoping that Year 8s help and support each other, allowing them to be confident with who they are.

Kings Coronation
NLS staff and students enjoyed preparing for the King’s Coronation Celebrations. In the week leading up to the Coronation, as part of tutor time, students engaged in sessions to learn more about the Coronation and a competition for the best decorated tutor classroom launched.  I am delighted that 8MR02 won the bunting competition with their entry - pictured below.

Our Coronation Bake Off took place on Friday 5th May. We were so pleased to have received a large number of entries from students in all year groups and staff. All students who entered, and showed real commitment to our school community, have received R4s. There was a real buzz in the courtyard at break time when the cakes were sold to raise money for The Prince’s Trust. We are so proud that our students raised over £200 for this fantastic charity! Thank you to all of our parents/carers who supported their child in engaging with this. It was really hard for the judges to choose the winning entries and were genuinely so impressed with the baking skills of our NLS students.

Oliver B in Year 7 was crowned the winner based on his creativity and originality! A massive well done to all of the entries - here are some of our Year 8s enjoying the occasion.

Paris 2023
Our students had a fantastic time in Paris.
Where do I begin? The year 8 students were excited, energetic & enthusiastic throughout our trip and an absolute delight. I could not be more proud of every single student .  The trip was fantastic albeit the journey home was a little frustrating however, it was measurably one of the best experiences I have had in my career. The accommodation was very impressive with extensive grounds for students to enjoy some quality time with their peers.  Animateurs organised a range of onsite events that allowed the students to have fun, work collaboratively and supportively. The students enjoyed a disco in the marquee on the final night. Although the songs were (in my opinion) questionable, the students had a ball.

 

The tour of Paris was the perfect opportunity to soak up some of the local culture and cuisine. We definitely made the most of our time in this iconic city. The Eiffel Tower was awesome. The hike to the second floor definitely tested my fitness levels however, the students proceeded without hesitation. The vista was spectacular, historic monuments spanning the horizon. The boat tour was an opportunity to sit back, relax and appreciate the beautiful architecture Paris has to offer.

     

 

   

Disney was the perfect destination for students to experience the thrills, adventure and excitement of both parks, Disneyland & the Walt Disney Studios. There were plenty of opportunities for discovery, adventure and to make fantastic memories.   

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The students appeared to have an incredible time. It was an absolute pleasure to take them and we hope that this trip is one that they will never forget.

‘’It was a wonderful experience to travel to Paris with NLS because it provided an excellent opportunity to explore the city. We had great weather and sunny skies the entire time we were on the journey. The excitement of being in Paris was increased by being accompanied by friends. Everywhere we went, particularly in front of the Eiffel Tower, we had the opportunity to take a tonne of photos!’’

‘’Although visiting the Eiffel Tower was one of the highlights of our trip, we also had the opportunity to see other monuments such as Cathedral of Notre Dame, Arc de Triumph and all the shops along the Champs-Élysées . We had an excellent perspective of the Eiffel Tower from the Bateaux Mouches boat trip, and the surrounding scenery was lovely.’’

‘’I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Eiffel Tower despite having a fear of heights. However my highlight was definitely Disney. From the moment we walked into the park it was magical. Myself and group of friends headed straight to the shop to buy our ‘Mickey Mouse’ ears. The atmosphere was electric. We went on the fastest rollercoasters I have ever experienced and the parade was just incredible.’’

    

    

Year 8 students remaining in school
I am pleased to inform you that the remaining year 8 students (those that did not attend the Paris trip) were taught a well-structured and balanced curriculum. These year 8 students proceeded to learn about Climate Change in line with our International School accreditation, developed their literacy / oracy skills by leading debates and demonstrated their knowledge of Skills Beyond School. The students worked collaboratively, demonstrated perseverance, resilience and made links to a world beyond NLS. The quality of their work they produced was fantastic. I was so proud of them.

 

Parents and Carers
I just want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support so far this year. I hope that you feel your child has been given the guidance and support to achieve, but more importantly, to enjoy school life. I look forward to catching up with you all at the various school events next term. Have a lovely break.
