Football Success -Year 9 Win District Cup Final and Year 11 Finalists
We are delighted to share the success of our Year 9 and 11 football teams who both reached the District Cup Finals which took place last night – Wednesday 15 April amid thunder, lightning, and torrential rain over the Ajax Central pitches,
NLS 5 - 2 Alcester Grammar
Our Year 9 team faced Alcester Grammar school and the game opened in dramatic fashion, with the first goal crashing in from a free kick from 20 yards and George then doubling the lead with a fine volley into the top corner.
Alcester pulled a goal back of deflection upon deflection leaving it 2-1 at half time, before captain Fin powered home a drive after strong work from Ed. NLS added a crisply taken penalty before an immediate response from Alcester's impressive left winger.
With seven minutes left on the clock the referee called a 20 minute break in play due to lightning with the score at 4-2.
After the break Year 8's outstanding Max marshalled the excellent NLS defence and with one minute remaining George added a fifth to rain-soaked celebrations. Fourteen incredible young men who absolutely wore their NLS hearts on their drenched sleeves.
A huge well done to all the boys who played in the final and well done to all the boys who have represented the school teams at Football this season.
